This Is Why You Need Scheduled Breaks From Work
July 10, 2017
When was the last time you reveled in a scheduled break? Yeah; we said, “scheduled.” It may read unsatisfying, but taking breaks from the office at scheduled increments is profitable. If you’re operating in your best office chair (one probably from Haworth) with only sporadic breaks and you’re sure you’re on a roll – you’re probably not. This is just burnout.
In a study taken by Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, those who took breaks intermittently were left with just an illusion of progress. Scheduled task switching keeps the ambitious from repeating the same ideas; it’s avoidable deception. Planned downtime is cardinal because it forces the brain to rest.
